First Art Class

We had our first ever art class in the studio here on the weekend and I couldn't be happier with how it all went! The kids said they all learnt lots and much fun was had. Watercolour is such an enjoyable medium as you can create some really stunning results pretty easily if you know a few techniques. I also like it because although you always have a bit of control over what you are doing, so much of it comes down to how the paint reacts with the water and the other colours and you can get some really magical results if you just let the paint and water do it's thing. Adding some ink to the mix is a real fun treat . Ink has a mind of it's own when it touches wet watercolour on paper and expands and does all sorts of crazy 'whoahhhhh look at that' kind of things! You also can't go wrong with the classic old salt resist to achieve some awesome texture and effects.

Some of the experiments I did prior to the class.

Gotta love the salt resist!

All set up and ready for the kids

Pretty stoked with what I've managed to do with this space since moving in! It's been a lot of fun and it's SO AWESOME to have a space dedicated to creating!!! I am a lucky girl.

Zahra and Bianka arrived a little early and got started with the technique experiments

Studio doggy enjoying the sunshine

Quick break in the garden for some freshly baked cookies!!

Galaxies created using the new techniques we learnt!

The next class at the studio will be this Sunday! An abstract painting party for adults! We'll be using acrylic paint to create abstract paintings on canvas after learning a bit about composition and techniques and doing some fun little warm up paintings to get in the groove. There will also be tasty snacks and beverages going around! There are still a few spots available and you can book in by visiting the Workshops section of my website.
